Hey I’m Jess, a qualified teacher, honorary Northerner, cat lover, yoga enthusiast, travel obsessive and, above all, someone who really, really loves food. I’m not a chef, and I’m not trained to be one. I’m just someone who genuinely loves feeding people. I love cooking, discovering new food and finding ways to make food exciting, accessible and fun.
My food related hobbies have got slightly out of hand. I read cookbooks for fun and pin recipes I’ll probably never get round to making on Pinterest, listen to foodie podcasts, I love trying new places to eat and taking far too many photos of food and planning holidays around what I’m going to eat.
I’m also a big fan of batch cooking and what I call “freezer roulette” opening the freezer and discovering what past me decided to make.
I love cooking for friends and family, hosting, exploring food from different cultures and, naturally, drinking wine in new locations. I’m also usually the first one on the dancefloor and very often the last one off it.
Travel is a huge part of my life too. I’ve travelled to more than 40 countries and love discovering places through their food, whether that means a local market, a cooking class, a tiny family run restaurant or simply trying something I’ve never eaten before.
Why Scran? After 12 years in teaching, I wanted to combine my love of education with my love of food. And that’s where Scran came from.
I’m passionate about food education and giving children the opportunity to learn practical skills that they can actually use in everyday life. Cooking can teach confidence, independence, creativity, nutrition, budgeting, culture and above all bringing people together.
See you in the kitchen!
